Using a Positive Mental Attitude to Help Get Anything That You Want

August 19, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

By Ryan McCormack

Most people do not seem to realize just how important having a Positive Mental Attitude is in everything that we do. For example if you were to attend an interview for a job and you had both the qualifications and the experience for the job and still did not get the job, then you were either dressed inappropriately or came across as negative. Even if we don’t speak negatively but our body language is negative, other people will notice. Never keep your arms folded when speaking to someone especially if you are attending an interview and always make eye contact when speaking to the interviewer. It shows the interviewer that you are positive and shows integrity.

This is only one thing that having a positive mental attitude will help you with. There are many more such as getting a girlfriend/boyfriend because you are more likely to say the right words at the beginning if you are positive. So how do you gain a positive mental attitude if you have conditioned yourself into being negative. Well that’s an easy one word answer, PRACTICE. Remember the famous saying, Practice makes… PERFECT. I want you to remember that but with a difference because no one can become perfect, we all make mistakes from time to time after all we are only human. In fact change the word perfect to permanent because if we practice something long enough then it will stick in our brains and then it will become a habit. That’s what we ultimately want to achieve here we want to be positive not by force but rather by habit.

A habit is caused by doing the same thing over and over again. To get rid of a bad habit in this case thinking negatively we must 1st replace it with another habit, that is why people tend to fail when they try to give up smoking. They fail to replace the habit (smoking) with another habit I should know I used to be a smoker I tried and failed until I got the right formula for me. So what can we replace thinking negatively with? Quite simply start thinking Positively and make positivity become your habit instead.

You Just Never Know…

August 17, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus

Early morning routine: Jack, my dog, and I are taking our walk. His leash is in my hand, my headphones are clamped over my ears; I am absorbed in the back-and-forth of my favorite podcast. Jack and I; just doin’ our thing.

The neighborhood is residential; no major thoroughfares, so I’m quite cognizant of the large diesel truck that rattles up next to us and slows down. Matching my pace, the driver waves at me. I assume he’s just being friendly so I return the action, figuring he knows me from my decades of living in a smaller community.

He gestures again, this time I recognize he’s motioning me to come over. Pulling Jack’s leash in tight, we walk on to the street and approach the open passenger window.

The white truck’s interior is clean, uncluttered, and modern, with a flat screen in the center of the dashboard. As for its only passenger, he appears to be in his forties, healthy, short-cropped hair, and brandishing a smile as big as the vehicle and as warm as its motor.

Leaning toward me across the center console, he opens, “You probably don’t remember me…”

He’s correct.

“…About 25 years ago, I applied for a job working for you. You didn’t hire me.”

“I’m sorry.” A slight rumbling of anxiety bubbles in my belly. Is this some form of latent workplace revenge?

Socializing Without Eating: Is it Really Possible?

July 27, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

I hadn’t seen her in years even though we live in the same town.

You know how it is, I’m busy, so is he. Time got away from us. It’s not like we had a disagreement, or we didn’t want to see each other; it’s just that, well, life kicked in…

I answered the phone, “Hey Scott,” says she, “I just realized that we haven’t gotten together in a long time and we’ve got so much to catch up on. I thought we could schedule a time.”

“Sounds great,” I replied, “I can do lunch next Thursday. If that doesn’t work, we could get coffee in the afternoon, or, on Wednesday, we could meet early and grab a bagel. Where would you like to go?”

She responded, “You know the park with the duck pond?”

“Yes, the one with all the trails?”

“Yeah, that one. What about Thursday at noon?”

“Sure, that works for me. But I’m not familiar with any restaurants there.”

“There aren’t any. I’ve been trying to get in shape, and I know you’re always watching your weight, so I thought we could walk and talk. It would be nice to catch up outside.”

And so we did. But, can I be honest? It felt really weird; kind of like wearing someone else’s clothes. It seems normal enough at first glance, but you just can’t get comfortable.

I mean, think about it, what’s one of the first questions we ask when we decide to meet up with someone: Lunch or coffee? If you really wanted to crash our economy, ban meetings in restaurants or coffee houses.

Building Support

April 18, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

If you can’t have faith, have hope.

If you don’t have hope, have patience.

If you don’t have patience, have good friends.

Reach out. We are social beings, which explains why we build communities and relationships. It’s who we are at our core. Talk to someone. Remember, even powerful people have needs. Besides, when you share, you almost immediately feel better.

Call a friend. Send an email. Someone is there to help. You just need to ask.

Note: Every Monday, a new motivational memo is posted. Subscribers to ThisTimeIMeanIt.com’s coaching service get this – and many more benefits – sent to them directly. If you’d like to know more, follow this link.
