You Are Not Alone

March 17, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Note: We recently launched of a seminar series, “Five Things You Must Know To Make Your Life Better.”  As part of that series, one of the things we went over were the “10 Commandments of Changing Habits.” This is one of those “commandments.”

Accept thy journey is not alone

You run your own life.

If you want to change it, you have to take responsibility for where you are and where you’re going.

However, realize that those most closely tied to you will have to adjust, and they might – or might not – want to.

Keep others informed.

Don’t Listen to Pressure

Listen not to the pressure of others…

Change because you want to or you need to, not because of external pressure.

It’s perfectly OK to stay where you are and continue to engage in your behaviors. However, own it.

Realize that is your choice and you are making it.

This gives you the power to change later – should you so choose.

Do You Enjoy Your Bad Habits?

March 6, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Note: We recently launched of a seminar series, “Five Things You Must Know To Make Your Life Better.”  As part of that series, one of the things we went over were the “10 Commandments of Changing Habits.” This is one of those “commandments.”

Thou shalt enjoy the benefits of thy habits.

This might – at first – seem counter intuitive.

However, the habit you are trying to change provides a benefit; that’s why you started it.  However, when the side effect of the benefit is more painful than the pleasure, it’s time to say goodbye.

You were doing the best you knew how to do. Now, you know more and you have decided to change. “Bless” the habit, rather than curse it.

Wish it well. Move on.

How Much Work Does Your Relationship Require?

July 29, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

If your long term relationship seems like all work and no play for a long time, it’s in trouble.

On the other hand, if it’s all play and no work for a long time, it’s not real – and it won’t last when things get tough. (And all relationships have tough times.)

Honest adult relationships are about 80% companionship and 20% business.

If you cannot “do business” together, you won’t be able to live together. Conversely, if it’s all business, it feels like you’ve never left the job – and who needs that?

Take time every day to make sure you work well together and that you spend time together.

(Yes, we lead busy lives, but if we cannot take 20 minutes a day for the most important person in our lives, than is he or she really that important to us?)

Dealing With Crisis – Monday Motivational Memo

April 30, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

When in a crisis, it’s better to ask “HOW do I go out of here?” rather than “WHY am I here?”

When the crisis is over, figure out why.

When “stuff” happens to us over and over again, we have a normal tendency to throw up our arms in frustration and say, “WHY is this happening to me again?”

The better question is “HOW do I deal with it?” Better yet, “HOW do I stop it from happening again?”

WHY is an intellectual word; it’s great for figuring out the cause and for planning. HOW is an action word, it always paints a path forward.

You might not like the path but at least you’re no longer a victim and you have a choice.
