Understand that giving take more strength than taking.

Yet the rewards are far greater.

Find ways to give more often.

Don’t get locked into the idea that giving is merely materialistic.

Open a door for a stranger. Let a car get in front of you in traffic. Pick up a piece of trash on the street.

Remember, if you don’t have money, give time.
If you don’t have time, give a smile.

If you don’t have a smile, ask for help.

Negative moods are caused by “stuck thoughts.” When that happens, get up for a few minutes and change your environment. Spend some time walking or call a friend or just breathe deeply. Change your focus – even if it’s only for a short time.

You’ll notice that your mood lifts almost immediately.

Lessons from a Child

She was dressed in pink sweatpants with the word, “sweet” emblazoned on her diaper-clad bottom.

On her feet were brown clogs. Atop her head was a wool, knitted, patchwork cap of pink, yellow, and red, giving her a pastel “Rastafarian” look. However, instead of dreadlocks wrapped within, a waterfall of blonde, bouncy, curls framed her wide-open blue eyes and light complexion.

In her chubby, small, right hand, she carried what used to be a cookie; now, however, all that remained was a half eaten, saliva-covered, dollop of doughy goo with a smattering of pink frosting encrusting the edges. “Cookie” in hand, she bounded as if on springs from one corner of the bakery to the other, her grandfather always in eye shot, as she pointed to each of the items on the bottom shelf of the bakery’s glass case, looking to him for the correct word.

“Cookie,” he said, as she pointed to a green, sprinkle covered cut-out of a dinosaur.

January 25, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

Every office has that enviable employee who seems to make things happen under any circumstance. And let’s be honest: All of us wish we were that go-getting individual.

I used to really look up to one of my coworkers. He always had a smile on his face, and was always on the go – whether he was completing his own work, or lending a hand to peers who needed an extra set of eyes and ears -and never seemed stressed or overwhelmed.

One day, I asked him how he did it: Stayed on top, stayed positive and stayed successful, without breaking a sweat.

He smiled and shared the following secrets with me, which have since helped me on my own ascension to success:

Exchange Gratitude for Frustration

March 19, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Happy dog attitude

The key to happiness is understanding a “good” life is not a “perfect” life.

It is simply a good life “more times than not.”

When we get frustrated about how “lousy” our lives appear to be, it’s time to take a look at the big picture.

Odds are, we’re comparing reality to a perfect, idyllic image of life; which is never going to happen.

Slow down, focus on what’s going well (especially when it seems like that’s a very short list). Take a deep breath. Smile (even you feel like it’s a forced smile).

Then, look back again on where you are. It will be better.

The funny thing is nothing changed except your perception.
