Every office has that enviable employee who seems to make things happen under any circumstance. And let’s be honest: All of us wish we were that go-getting individual.
I used to really look up to one of my coworkers. He always had a smile on his face, and was always on the go – whether he was completing his own work, or lending a hand to peers who needed an extra set of eyes and ears -and never seemed stressed or overwhelmed.
One day, I asked him how he did it: Stayed on top, stayed positive and stayed successful, without breaking a sweat.
He smiled and shared the following secrets with me, which have since helped me on my own ascension to success:
Don’t over-complicate things.
Those of us who get things done know there’s just no time for unnecessary distractions. Why bother with button-fly jeans when a zipper is so much quicker? What’s the point in stressing over bills, when you can just set them to auto-withdraw from your account?
Even when it comes to something like exercising, people serious about results testify to the same thing. If you want your best chances of success, keep it simple, gradual, and most of all, make it work for your lifestyle. Take your time and look at the success stories from successful programs. One such as Mike Geary’s Truth About Abs reviews many easy options for incorporating exercise into a healthy lifestyle, no matter how busy it may be. If you follow a , sound exercise program, you’ll lose the pounds (and inches) without overworking yourself.
In all parts of your professional and personal life, if you want to make waves, keep it simple. You’ll have more energy to focus on forging the change you want to see into reality.
Cut the “bad fat” out of your life
And not just by sticking to a great eating/exercise plan. Really take a look at your life and find out what causes drama, then find a way to get rid of it.
I had the same piece of crap car for five years. I owed too much money to sell it, but it just kept breaking and bleeding me dry every time it did. It was a constant source of stress and misery for me. One day, I decided to cut my losses and get rid of the car – albeit at a slight financial loss -and replace it with a brand-new, dependable and stress-free vehicle.
Sometimes what feels like a problem is just an obstacle in need of a creative solution. If you feel like you’re at an impasse, try a different point of view. And take “can’t” out of your vocabulary.
Stay engaged
Don’t let yourself get bored. Whether it’s your job, your relationship, or your workout routine, keep yourself on your toes. Getting too comfortable in any part of your life will lead to stagnation, and stagnation is the ultimate enemy of becoming a proactive force in your world.
When it comes to exercise, take it from an authority such as Isabel De Los Rios. In her lifestyle guide, The Diet Solution Program, review after review will tell you to keep vigilant about what you do (on a regular basis) with your body, and the results won’t disappoint.
Approach your body as other successful people: you own it, so respect it, and make it the absolute best version of itself that it can be.
Get up early
There are 24 hours in the day. That’s 24 opportunities to take the world by the reigns and make it yours. A regular sleep schedule will help you take advantage of that, and getting up with the sun every day will motivate you to actually get out and do it.
Waking up with the sun, even on weekends and vacation days, will get your body back in sync with its natural roots. Use the extra hour or two every morning to work out, prepare a healthy, filling breakfast, and relax into a book or newspaper for a bit.
Removing the rush from your morning routine sets the tone for the rest of your day. And being productive before you even make it to your desk will give you a constant feeling of satisfaction.
Hope for the best, but always be prepared for a challenge
Be a realistic optimist. What does that mean? Sure, there’s always a bright side, but sometimes the road there is a difficult one.
Difficult, but not impossible.
A positive mindset and level-headed approach will position you as the go-to person in complex situations, both at work and in your personal life. If you want to become a role model for success, you have to first prove that you can achieve it under the most trying circumstances.
There’s no magic formula…
These tips really helped me out, and I think you’ll find them crucial in your climb to the top, too. But the most important thing to do is to customize them to what works for you.
It’s a matter of faith, trust in yourself, and a little creativity. With them, you can do it all.
See you at the top!
About The Author, Hannah Tool: I used to think that being thin meant I was healthy until I was hospitalized, violently ill and dangerously thin, and found out that I suffer from Crohn’s disease– a gastrointestinal inflammatory disease that attacks the autoimmune system. My entire life then changed. I wasn’t about to let a disease stop me from following my dream of becoming a writer. Through a healthy diet and regular exercise, I turned my body into the best version of itself that it can possibly be, in spite of Crohn’s disease. I’m on the career track I always dreamed of, and living a happier, healthier life than I could have imagined for myself.
