Video: Little Girl Doesn’t Want Her Brother to Grow Up

July 30, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

I don’t whether to laugh or cry at this video.

However, I think we can all really relate. Sometimes aging just sucks. However, who would have thought it would affect this little girl so much.  In this video, she not only laments the fact that her little brother is going to grow up, but that she will.

The Road from “Never” to “Now”

June 18, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

never-land-&-now-road

Changing a bad habit can be messy, frustrating, and unpleasant.

After all, if it was easy, we’d all be dropping bad habits willy-nilly, wouldn’t we?

It becomes easier if, instead of looking at it like, “One moment I’m here. The next minute I have to be all the way over there,” we understand it more as a series of stages.

I’ll assume one has left the initial stage of denial, and decided to — for example — lose a few pounds; accepting that either forever gaining weight or making a change are his only options.

He lands firmly in stage one: “Never.”

Here thoughts and feelings are extremely negative, perception being an excessive, laborious amount of work and discomfort for what appears to be a pipe dream result. Internal dialog is, “I will never be able to do that” with the obvious coda being, “…so why bother to try?”

In our example, the thought of sweaty, painful exercise; a starvation-level diet; anal-retentive tracking of calories; tasteless recipes; extensive shopping pattern adjustments; and – in general – being forever, always, never-ending conscious; triggers our synapses to scream, “No way! Can’t be done, ain’t gonna happen.” Crossing our arms, scowling, and firmly planting our feet, we refuse to budge.

Or so we think.

You see; the problem is that once consciousness has been raised it cannot never again be buried.

For many people, winter complicates the issue by bringing about yearly battles with Seasonal Depression (also referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD). Combatting Emotional Distress is Not a Challenge Anymore

August 27, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

Is it worth being upset?

Emotions are an indispensable part of human life.

However, at times you might find it difficult to deal with the ones that pull your energies down. The problem begins when you carry the emotional distress for long and it begins to influence negatively your personal and professional life.

Depressive mood, irritability, self-criticism and disappointment are some of the common symptoms signaling that you are undergoing a problem. They may be attributed to an emotionally hard-hitting experience of your life.

You need to stop pitying yourself and feeling helpless for not being able to control your emotions. Hiding away or avoiding your pain is never the solution for it can put you on a self-destructive path by resorting to wrong methods such as use of drugs or alcohol. Clear your mind and think of the healthy ways to deal with the situation. [Read more…]

Our Feelings are Our Own

June 3, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Woman screaming at phone.

Nobody makes anybody feel anything.

We learn to react to events by feeling certain ways. We can learn to react differently if we want to.

It won’t always be easy but it’s definitely  worth it.
