Staying Focused: Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

November 28, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Keep the main thing the main thing.trying to stay focused

Sometimes, it’s hard to stay focused. We have so much to do, so many things to accomplish. That’s especially true during the holidays. By trying to do too much, or by looking down the road to far, we become overwhelmed. We stress out. We freeze up. We make the problem worse.

If you’re feeling like your treading water or juggling too many assignments, the problem is most likely that you’re trying to do too much; rather than not enough. Slow yourself down. Ask yourself, “What ONE thing will I do RIGHT NOW that I will complete?” Then, complete it BEFORE you move on to anything else.

Then, enjoy the sense of success that comes with accomplishment.

That too will keep you moving forward.

Noticing Perfect Moments

November 14, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Take time to notice “perfect” moments in life.

a perfect momentHow often we do let them slip by unnoticed?

When was the last time you lingered over a brilliant sunset, or stopped to watch children play, or smelled the air after a first rain, or put your day on hold long enough to make a baby giggle? How long has it been since you sat and held hands with someone special, not even bothering to talk? Can you remember just sitting and thinking about how wonderful is life – without having the urge to get up and “do something?”

Life cannot be perfect.

However, do not confuse that with a lack of perfect moments. We get so busy, we forget to notice them when they occur.

Stop.

Slow down.

Breathe deeply the moments when they happen.

Life is good.

Change Your Observations to Change Your Life

November 7, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Change your observations; change your attitude.

Change your attitude; change your life.

Change what you observe, change your lifeAttitude is the combination of beliefs and feelings that effect how you view the world and how you react to it.

Beliefs are closely held values accepted as facts and validated by repeat observations.

Therefore, if you change what you look for (observations), you will change your beliefs. If you change your beliefs, you will change your attitude. If you change your attitude, you will change how you react to the world (and therefore how it reacts to you).

If you change how you react to the world, you will change your life.

Overcoming Disappointment & Setbacks

October 24, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

There is no such thing as failure; merely feedback.

Slip-ups are inevitable.

The difference between someone who succeeds and someone who doesn’t is the way she reacts to it.

Successful people look at it as a setback. Yes, they might be frustrated. No, they aren’t happy about it. But, they realize that they can go at it again after making some changes.

People who do not achieve their goals “freak out” when things don’t go the way they want. They look at it as failure and the end of the road. The immediately follow up thought to that is, “As long as it didn’t work, why bother to keep trying?” They quit.

When things don’t go the way you want, it’s OK to be disappointed but look at what didn’t work; figure out how to change it; and go at it again.

Admitting Mistakes

October 3, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

We are judged not by our absence of flaws – but by the positive traits we possess.

Most (not all) of the people we know are relatively forgiving – if we give them a chance. They see our flaws and love us anyway – unless we try to deny what we don’t do well.

Admit your shortcomings, ask for help, work to get better.

And remember to be as understanding when others do the same.
