Eat Your Frogs

July 22, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Every day do one thing that makes you uncomfortable – but helps you reach your goals.

Do it before you do anything else.

As one of my mentors says, “Winners do what losers won’t.” (Of course, we’re not talking about weight loss here!)
frog-on-couch

He refers to it as “eating a frog.” After all, if you had to eat a frog every day first thing, everything you did after that would seem so much easier. When my wife (whose also self-employed) and I compare notes at day’s end, we actually say, “I ate 3 frogs” or “I ate 2 frogs;” meaning how many things we did that we had delayed.
Delaying unpleasant tasks does not make them go away, it simply lowers your attitude, making you less productive the entire day.

Eat a frog every day. It keeps you motivated and keeps away depression.

Are you Independent or Stubborn?

Are you independent or are you stubborn?

It’s a fine line between being “independent” and being “stubborn.”

Being independent means being able to get along and function on your own without needing anyone else’s help nor approval. It also means you are open to hearing other’s ideas and to learning better ways to move forward.

However, being stubborn means insisting that you know how to do what you do irrespective of evidence or offered support; even if it’s not getting the best results. Stubbornness means you’re more determined to get your way rather than get it done well. In reality, stubbornness harms relationships and holds you back.

It’s a sign of strength to ask for help when you need it. It’s a sign of maturity to recognize when you need the help.

Even strong independent people have areas where they need others.

Recognize them. Get help.

Then return the favor.

Be With Those You Admire

Be around friends and people who exemplify the character and success you wish to achieve.

One of the surest indicators of how well we do at anything is who we hang around with.

For example:

  • If you wish to be healthier, hang out with healthy people.
  • If you wish to be happy, hang out with happy people.
  • If you wish to be appreciative, hang out with grateful people.

If you’re having trouble finding others who share your sought-after goals or attribute – you can be the first one.

(Others will find you.)

Accepting Mistakes Will Happen

November 10, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Anti-Perfectionism Affirmation

Mistakes Happen

Today, I will accept the fact that the only way for mistakes to be avoided is to remain stagnant. Whereby that will prevent me from making errors, it will also prevent me from the possibility of enjoying my life, as well as growing. I will therefore move forward, fully aware of the fact that the unexpected can – and most likely will – happen, but that I can handle them when they do.

I am a fully functional being with the ability to handle set-backs and errors. Knowing that makes me stronger and happier.
