Finding Abundance

July 15, 2015 by Scott "Q" Marcus

The year prior to last was frankly put, lousy.

We had some health issues, which, as you know, are not only frightening, but also expensive. To make matters worse, what I thought was a very successful business model suddenly collapsed as if built on rotten toothpicks, leaving me financially scrambling. I’m fortunate; I’ve always put money away for a rainy day, but this was a downpour.

German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said,

“That which does not kill me makes me stronger.”

So, I guess I am sturdier for the experience. Yet, I retained scars.

One result was that I hunkered down, even as the tides began shifting. I looked for where I could shrink my life instead of how I could once again blossom. Because I attempt to live simply (all things being relative), there wasn’t a great deal to prune. I was faced with decisions akin to, “How can I save three dollars on the power bill? Is it really essential to patch the roof now or can we wait? How long can I hold off before replacing my brakes?”

Don’t misunderstand, we muddle up our existence with all too much unnecessary clutter so, if given the luxury, living within one’s means is admirable and even virtuous. However, unless one is extravagant or wealthy (or both), he or she can only cut so much fat before grinding away through bone.

Eventually, I was fortunate enough to be confronted by someone willing to have with me one of those unpleasant — but many times necessary — “courageous conversations.”

Unleashing Your Positive Side

May 30, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

success joy happinessYour attitude can make all the difference.  The actual act of thinking positively or negatively requires the same amount of energy. Of course the end results are very different.  A negative attitude will lead you into negative situations.  Most of the time you’ll suppress your full potential and follow down a path of failure.  Finding the positive in any situation can lift your spirits and set you on a better pathway to achieving what you want out of life.

It takes a lot of work to maintain a positive attitude. Proper planning and preparation will set you on the path to achieving the goal of living positively.  Follow these tips to learn how to unleash your positive side so that you improve relationships with friends and family, and impact coworkers and others around you.

Personal Assessment

The very first step is to take a self assessment.  Before you can proceed with any changes you should review your own disposition and current situation.  Take a long hard look and be honest with yourself.  This will not be easy, but it can be done.  You can’t change anything until you identify the areas that need the most emphasis.  Make a list and note down the negative aspects of your life.  Think about your attitude, how you live and your relationships.

Affirmation: The Cleansing Ability of Sadness

June 9, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Sadness can be cleansing.

We do so much to avoid being sad.

Aside from the fact that it’s impossible to never experience sadness, we need to realize that it won’t kill us. Sadness is nature’s way of removing the pain from our soul. Only after letting it run its course, can we once again experience true joy.

Do not seek out reasons to be sad; but do not avoid it either.

I will feel sadness should it arise. I will let it wash over me.

I will continue with my pursuits – despite feeling sad.

Affirmation: Avoiding Absolutes

May 31, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Self-Acceptance Affirmation

There are no absolutes in life.

To enjoy life, we must understand the variations it brings us. There are no “blacks” nor “whites.” Everything lies somewhere in between

To expect something or someone to be perfect is to expect an absolution that does not happen in life. It is a waste of our time.

Life is messy; but I  enjoy it for what it is.

Affirmation: Being Loved for Who You Are

May 26, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Self-Acceptance Affirmation

People will still love you even if you mess up.

We are more critical of ourselves than almost anyone else. We can feel unloved for our errors and our shortcomings. We are also more forgiving of others when they make mistakes than we are of ourselves.

The people we love – and those who love us – know we are not perfect. Yet, they love us anyway, just as we do them.

We are entitled to love because we exist, not because we are infallible.

I am loved for who I am.
