Don’t Break Bad Habits, Bend Them

July 28, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

“Bend,” rather than “break” your habit.

Breaking a bad habit can be difficult. There’s no two ways about it.

So, if you’re tried over and over and over again to break a habit, and it just doesn’t seem to be happening, try “bending” the habit. [Read more…]

There Will ALWAYS Be More To Do

July 21, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

No matter how efficient you are, there will always be more to do.

woman-buried-in-papers

A major difference between people who are proficient at time management and those who are not is that those who are good at it realize that they will never get everything accomplished – and they’ve come to accept that.

Because of that realization, effective time-managers have learned to let go of as much of the “small stuff” as possible.

If you’re overwhelmed with everything you have to do, invoke the “Five Year Rule.”

Ask yourself, “Will anyone know or care about this five years from now?” If the answer is “no,” let it go. If the answer is “yes,” get to work on it.

The vast majority of tasks fall in the “it’s not that important” category, giving you more time to focus on what really matters.

How to Motivate Yourself to Do “Something”

July 27, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

by guest author Alesha Wilson

How many times have you promised yourself that you will do something but ended up postponing it and doing something less productive? How many times have you promised to go to the gym to lose some weight but have backed out of the plan when the day arrived? Having cold feet is normal, but sometimes you have to brave the waters and do what has to be done–in this case, exercising to avoid being obese is a priority.

The statistics are overwhelming.

Take a look around you and you will see that many people are turning obese. But you do not have to be one of them. As long as you set your mind to that necessary change, you can save yourself. So how do you motivate yourself to change your ways? Apart from exercising, you can also use the steps listed below in other tasks that you might be having problems doing.

  1. Find a partner. It’s easy to be discouraged when you are going to the gym alone. Instead of being intimidated by the stares given to you by other people at the gym, ask your best friend to go with you. It will be just like your bonding sessions, except this time you are not dining out but burning unwanted fats. Anyone will do–your sister, your officemate, your neighbor–as long as you have a good relationship with that person. It’s even better if you make new friends at the gym so that you will look forward to seeing them every time you visit.
  2. Set a goal each week. You don’t have to lose all those unnecessary pounds in a few days. Go for a slow, but sure process. Set your mind to target at least five pounds a week. If you see that you are losing bigger than this, you can set your target a little higher. This way, you won’t be pressured to lose an unachievable number.
  3. Give yourself a reward. Make yourself work for something. What’s the use of following your exercise routine religiously if you don’t have something to look forward to, right? Tell yourself that you will buy that dress in size 0 when you achieve that weight. Thinking about the reward you will get after losing weight will surely make you want to work even harder.
  4. Keep tabs of your progress. If you are already losing weight, you need to know when to stop. By listing down the number of pounds you lost in one week, you will have an idea of when you can graduate from the gym. After that, your next move is to make sure that you still have enough exercise to avoid all the fat from returning.
  5. Prepare nutritious foods that taste great. To make sure that fats are lost, you should avoid eating meals that are rich in them. But you also do not have to punish yourself by eating foods that do not taste great at all. Rather, find easy to follow recipes of great-tasting meals with reduced calories. These are all over the internet these days, and they do taste great!

After reading the tips listed above, you hopefully are more motivated in getting “something” done. Just make sure that you enjoy the process and the outcome will be worth it.

Be Patient With What You Cannot Accomplish

April 29, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Self-Acceptance Affirmation

There will always be more to do.

The only way we are all identical is that we each live in a 24-hour day.  Why some people accomplish more is therefore a function of how they organize their days and what priorities they have.

Yet, even they cannot accomplish everything they’d like to accomplish. We must realize that even when we pass from this life, we will still have uncompleted tasks “left on our plate.”

Be organized. Understand your priorities.  Accept that you’re only human.

Today I accept that there will always be something more to do.

All I can do is what I can do.

You’re Finished! Congratulations.

February 16, 2012 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

What have you finished today?

success attitude productivityWhat will you finish this week? This month? This year?

What are you waiting for?

Look around your office. How many projects are on your desk at present? Which ones have taken up permanent occupancy? I consider my desk to be a high rent district. Squatters aren’t welcome. If it stays, it pays.

After coaching from colleague John Tenza I now awake each morning and ask myself: “What am I going to finish today?”

There’s great satisfaction in completing projects, of shipping orders, of finishing manuscripts and closing deals. Conversely there’s negative energy that surrounds projects with no end in sight, ones that just seem to hang on. Liberate yourself from these energy drainers. Commit to complete!

Just as the best time to make a sales call is right after you’ve just made a sale, so too will you feel fantastic about existing projects when you complete one of them today.

Become a Master of Time and Space

According to Tenza, a multidimensional sales trainer, “clutter is a killer. When you put things in their rightful place, toss or give away items, you clear your mind as well as your desk and office.” The key is to get into action. You must decide to do it!

Completions Not Just for Quarterbacks and Receivers

Strive for completions. Coach Tenza knows: “completions give you freedom from that gnawing stress that something needs to be done. Each time you complete an existing project you create new space and new energy for yourself.” John and I concur: your brain and body will thank you or the successes you will realize through completions.

On Becoming A Terminator

Here are some tips to complete more projects.
