Take Your Own Advice

November 5, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

You wouldn’t know it – but I changed my logo several months ago.

I even made a big deal out of it on line. Yet, I’ve been using the same older logo since that time.

“One of these days…,” I said “I’ll change it on my website and on my Monday Motivational Memo. But, it’s just so much work. It’ll take ‘forever.'”

Then I thought, “What advice would I give the folks who read what I write?”

I’d tell them to “Think 1st.”

I’d say:

  • Pick 1 Thing
  • Make it Small
  • Do it Today

So I did… and now you see the results. (I hope you like it!)

We tend to be very good about giving others advice and, unfortunately, we don’t always use our own wisdom.

What’s the best advice you’d give someone else about a problem you’re facing?

Take your own advice. It’s coming from a very wise source.

Affirmation: Being Loved for Who You Are

May 26, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Self-Acceptance Affirmation

People will still love you even if you mess up.

We are more critical of ourselves than almost anyone else. We can feel unloved for our errors and our shortcomings. We are also more forgiving of others when they make mistakes than we are of ourselves.

The people we love – and those who love us – know we are not perfect. Yet, they love us anyway, just as we do them.

We are entitled to love because we exist, not because we are infallible.

I am loved for who I am.

Motivational Monday Memo: Slow Down and Listen

January 30, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

To get answers, you have to ask questions.

To hear the answers, you have to listen.

Our minds listen “faster” than people can speak.

Therefore, especially when we’re  busy, we sometimes don’t take the time so slow down and really listen to what others are telling us. We respond to what we think they’re saying, not necessarily what they are really saying.

Take just a few seconds to “slow down your listening speed,” especially when the conversation is important. You’ll hear what you normally don’t, therefore, you will diminish the possibility of conflict. You will also actually be more productive because you will have fewer repeat conversations.

Self-Talk and Self-Care After Mistakes

November 15, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Anti-Perfectionism Affirmation

Be Kind to Yourself

We tend to be very quick to blame ourselves and very slow to accept compliments. A compliment denied is punishment self inflicted. When we feel bad, we engage in comforting behaviors; which many times are the very behaviors we are trying to change. Look for ways to complement yourself for what you do rather than beat yourself up for what you did not do. (That is not to say deny the problem, just be as kind to yourself about your slip-ups as you would be to a child.)

I will forgive myself for the errors I made today. I will correct them, but do so in a state of grace for all concerned, including myself.
