Beating Yourself Up Does Not Work

December 16, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Don’t beat yourself up over what you are not doing well.

Remember when you were 18?nails-in-head

Yes, you were an adult. Yes, you might even have been a responsible adult. However, could the “18-year-old you” juggle all the responsibilities you now have and effectively run the life you have today?

The answer is obviously NO.

Even at your current age, there are tools and skills you do not have. More importantly, you don’t even know you don’t have them yet.

They will be there when you need them. Berating yourself will not make them appear any quicker. Quite the contrary, it will help you feel bad and make you more inclined to give up.

There are tools to life you do not have right now. You will have them when you need them.

By the way, you have tools you no longer need. It’s OK to let them go. [Read more…]

Are You on Track?

January 28, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

overcoming obstacles - dedication - perseverance - attitude

As we come to the end of the first month of the year, plans we made earlier might have faded into dust.

That doesn’t mean the alternative is to give up. It’s important to remember that progress is not linear, it’s up and down, back and forth, here and there.

If you’ve stalled, it’s because your goal is:

  • Too big
  • Not specific
  • Doesn’t have a deadline
  • Isn’t your goal (i.e. you’re doing it because someone else is pressuring you)
  • Not in your control
  • A few of the above

Remember, every minute of every hour of every day is a chance to recommit to what matters most.

If you’re stuck, take a look at your goal and figure out one step to make it through today. Feel good when you do it.

Repeat as necessary.

Failing to Plan

January 3, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Failure to plan is planning to fail.

It might be a little cliche, but the sentiment is true. We say we’ll get everything done and we really mean it. (Sound like the name of a website?) But the reality is that life has its own patterns – and life is better about getting us off-track than we will ever be about getting it to conform to what we want.

Especially now at the beginning of a new year, block out some time to plan where you want to go. Make a schedule and do your best to stick to it.

It won’t work out the way you expect it – but it will be a lot closer to it than doing nothing.

Using Hope and Knowledge Together

October 8, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

HOPE can be more powerful than KNOWLEDGE.

But the two together are unstoppable.

Intelligence without hope leads to stagnation. Hope without knowledge is fantasy.

You can be very smart but never move forward. You can be extremely optimistic but accomplish nothing.

Believe. Hope. Learn. Apply. Grow.
