Imagine “As If…”

January 26, 2015 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Imagine your plans turning out exactly as if it was supposed to.

magic_wand

We all have our moments where we imagine how things can go wrong. Sure, “stuff happens,” but not as often as we think it does, and when it does, it’s usually not as bad as we thought it could be.

Picture everything working out the way you want it to.

Imagine how you’ll feel when you get what you worked for. Think about what the success will feel like. Fill yourself with the emotions and beliefs of accomplishment.

Even if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you thought it would, you’ll still enjoy the ride much more.

(Besides, can it hurt to imagine the best?)

Give More Than You Take; You’ll Get More in the End

January 19, 2015 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Understand that giving take more strength than taking.

Yet the rewards are far greater.

Find ways to give more often.

Don’t get locked into the idea that giving is merely materialistic.

Open a door for a stranger. Let a car get in front of you in traffic. Pick up a piece of trash on the street.

Remember, if you don’t have money, give time.
If you don’t have time, give a smile.

If you don’t have a smile, ask for help.

Track What’s Important

January 12, 2015 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

That which is important is important enough to track.

If you want more of something, you track it.

  • If you want more money, you track your money.
  • If you want a better relationship, you monitor it.
  • If you want to be healthier, you track your vitals.

Often we don’t pay attention because we’re afraid of what we might see. However, “benign neglect” is a not a strategy for success.

If you’re looking for improvement, find a way to keep track of it.

Just make sure you do so without guilt and shame because…

if guilt and shame were motivational, we’d all be happier healthier and more successful.

Whom do you admire?

Give More

December 8, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

It is virtually impossible to feel bad when giving, especially during this time of year.

Find more ways to give (and it’s not always about the money).

Give some time to help out those less fortunate than yourself. Give more compliments. Put your empty change in a donation bin. Open a door for somebody. Carry grocery bags. Pay the toll for the car behind you in line. Donate usable clothes. Give your books to a thrift store. Take those cans or boxes of food that you’re never going to use to the food bank. Tip larger (better yet, tip when it’s not expected).

Do Good. Feel Great.

If you’re looking for a couple of good charities, two of my favorites are OneLessMeal.org (also known as the Double D Diner) and the Humboldt Area Foundation, where the Ruth Marcus Memorial Writing Scholarship is located.
