Expect More

dream-written-in-sand

Research has shown that our ancient ancestors were pessimists.

When you think about that, it makes sense. In their day, they always had to assume that everything would go wrong so they could anticipate problems in advance. That’s how they survived.

People who didn’t think “worst case scenario” that did not survive as long.

Although we are no longer living in those times, their genetics have been passed down to us and therefore, we’re basically “hard wired” to be pessimistic. We still tend to default to believing that if something can go wrong, it will.

What would it feel like to believe that we might actually do better than we thought?

How empowering would that be? What would you do differently if you assumed that your success would be greater than you imagined – rather than worse?

Dream bigger every chance you get.

It can’t hurt – and the ride will be much more fun no matter how it turns out.

Thanksgiving & Gratitude Quotations

In honor of Thanksgiving, a collection of quotes for you.

• Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. ~ Oprah Winfrey • As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~ John F. Kennedy • Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. ~ Henry Van Dyke • You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There’s another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity. ~ Bill Gates • I’m thankful for every moment. ~ Al Green • Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence. ~ Erma Bombeck • Pride slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves. ~ Henry Ward Beecher • Dear Lord; we beg but one boon more: Peace in the hearts of all men living, peace in the whole world this Thanksgiving. ~ Joseph Auslander • Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Suddenly, so many things become so little when we realize how blessed and lucky we are.~ Joyce Giraud • Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. ~ Melody Beattie • Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.~ Brian Tracy • Gratitude is the sign of noble souls. ~ Aesop • Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for. ~ Zig Ziglar • When a person doesn’t have gratitude, something is missing in his or her humanity. ~ Elie Wiesel • At the age of 18, I made up my mind to never have another bad day in my life. I dove into a endless sea of gratitude from which I’ve never emerged. ~ Patch Adams • Give thanks often, especially when it doesn’t seem like you have anything for which to give thanks. ~ Scott “Q” Marcus

Start Small and Go Big

November 17, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Start small. Do more or add more if you want to.

man-looking-at-small-portionIt’s always easier to add more and it’s much more empowering than it is to feel bad about taking on too much.

This applies on many levels.

For example, if you’re trying to lose weight, take less than you want. (You can always go back from more but can’t give back what you eat.)

If you’re starting an exercise program, commit to a smaller realistic amount rather than an unwieldy longer time. (You can always add more.)

If you’re cleaning your house, promise yourself you’ll do one room really well instead of the whole house and get overwhelmed. (You can always do more if you want.)

We Are Given the Tools We Need When We Need Them

November 10, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

girl-with-power-tool

Question: Could the 20-year “you” of so long ago run the complexities of the life you live today?

Answer: Definitely not.

Even if you had your act “together” at that young age, younger “you” did not have the knowledge nor the skills to manage all the details of the life you now have.

As they say, “You didn’t even know what you didn’t know.”

Yet, as you’ve aged and faced a myriad of experiences, you have grown and become wise, learning how to handle what is presented to you, eventually making it part of your routine.

dog-emotions

Whatever you are feeling, whenever you’re feeling it – is real.

Your emotions are as real as your limbs and they have vital functions.

Of the four “primary colors of emotions:”

  • Sadness cleanses
  • Fear and Anger are each designed to protect
  • Happiness builds community and enriches your life

It’s no one else’s right to change what you feel or to tell you you’re wrong. [Read more…]
