Taking Control of Your Life

April 2, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Don’t let anybody else run your life.

However, if you let somebody else into your life, expect that they’re going to want to help steer.

Let them.

We need others. We are not as strong one our own as we are with them. That is why we develop relationships and build communities.

Yet, sometimes, there can be a fine line between getting support and having someone else run your life. Be open to letting others assist you. Listen to their ideas. However, if it doesn’t feel right, remember no one knows what’s best for you as well as you do.

Having said that, if you accept someone else into your life, let them help.

Exchange Gratitude for Frustration

Happy dog attitude

The key to happiness is understanding a “good” life is not a “perfect” life.

It is simply a good life “more times than not.”

When we get frustrated about how “lousy” our lives appear to be, it’s time to take a look at the big picture.

Odds are, we’re comparing reality to a perfect, idyllic image of life; which is never going to happen.

Slow down, focus on what’s going well (especially when it seems like that’s a very short list). Take a deep breath. Smile (even you feel like it’s a forced smile).

Then, look back again on where you are. It will be better.

The funny thing is nothing changed except your perception.

decide attitude decision“Not to decide” is indeed to decide.

Whether we actively make a decision, or we say to ourselves, “Let’s see how this goes for a little while longer,” we are still making a decision.

In one case, we’re owning what we do, accepting the consequences, empowering ourselves to take action.

In the other case – although we’re still making a decision – we are giving up control, opting to remain a victim to what happens.

It’s OK to take time to “think about things.”

But don’t fool yourself, you’re also opting to accept things as they are, and that too is a decision.

Listening to Your Inner Voice

March 5, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Most times, wisdom is found in the silence, not the talking.

solitude inner voice We know more than we sometimes realize. Unfortunately, we don’t take the time to listen to ourselves as often as we need.

Take a moment. Shut off the TV. Put the computer to sleep.  Turn down the radio. Quiet your mind.

Listen.

You will be surprised how often the answer is already there.

Changing Your Actions

February 27, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

To get somewhere different, you must do something different.

difference action changeAre you telling yourself, “This time IT will be different?” or are you saying to yourself, “This time I will do something different?“

In the difference between those two similar statements lies the difference between denial and action.

You can really want to change. You can hope you will change. You can even pray to change. But until you actually do something to change, you’re stuck where you are.

What will you DO differently today?
