July 18, 2013 by MikeTremba Leave a Comment

I need more sleep!

Americans are plagued by insomnia.

There are too many bills to pay and not enough income. Too many job seekers and not enough jobs. Too many mouths to feed and not enough food in the fridge.

Essentially, our lives can feel completely out of whack at times and the first thing to go to waste is our sleep patterns.

Without healthy sleep habits it’s almost impossible to lead a healthy overall life. If you find yourself laying awake at night, here are a few tips to help you catch the Zzz’s you need and get your health back on track. [Read more…]

How to Deal with Everyday Stress

April 2, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

stress attitude

Even though we live in a society where more things are automated than ever before, it seems that the amount of responsibility that most people feel is weighing them down is only increasing. If you are stressed out, if you that stress is taking over your life, there is a good chance that you are not making the best possible decisions.

While there is a thin line between a moderate amount of stress (which can provide you with great results) and an oppressive and unproductive level of stress, it is important to balance the line for yourself. The best way to avoid this ‘consuming’ form of stress is by keeping your stress at a manageable level. If you want to learn how to manage your daily stress level, just follow these four steps. Maintaining a Healthier YOU through Stress Management

March 18, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus

stress healthy enjoy lifeby Elaine Dumler

Part 2 of 3 (part 1 can be found here; part 3 can be found here)

You don’t have to look very far to find research that supports that stress leads to serious health problems on down the line – blocked arteries, heart attacks, strokes and even mental health issues. Reality says that there is no way you can avoid stress, so let’s manage it.

Stress and Exercise – Get Moving!

Exercise increases stamina, helps you keep your weight under control, lowers blood pressure and the physical signs of stress like skin problems and wrinkles.

You might be thinking that there is no way you have time during the day to exercise. I bet you could find time if you try something listed below.

  • When at work, get up and walk around and/or stretch for two-three minutes every hour.
  • Designate time to work out for a few minutes at least 4 times per week.
  • Try to get outside for exercise as often as you can. Healthy minimal sun exposure – with appropriate sunscreen naturally increases your body’s levels of Vitamin D.

Stress and Sleep

Good sleep habits are a key to stress management. Sleep deprivation shortens your reaction times in critical situations and increases the effects that stressors have on your normal behavior. Your goal should be to get 6 – 8 hours of sleep every night.

  • Refrain from alcohol and caffeine before going to bed.
  • Keep your bedroom cooler.
  • Don’t underestimate the value that a power nap can have. They’re not just for the kids! Even 15 minutes during the day can increase your productivity.
  • A relaxing bath with lavender or vanilla scent prepares you for sleep.
  • Writing in a journal before bedtime can get nagging thoughts out of your head before trying to sleep. [Read more…]

Stress Overload – 5 Steps to Relieve Overwhelming Stress

April 2, 2011 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

By Jan Verhoeff

(Editors Note: This is from ezinearticles.com; full information is at the end of the article.)

Have you ever felt that incredible weight of the world on your shoulders, spinning out of hand? I’m here to show you ways to relieve that overwhelming feeling of stress that just sends you reeling into the pit of doom.

1. Step back and find the humor.

Today I was visiting with a friend, after several months of missing her. I mentioned that my son was out of control these days, and we talked about how we’d both threatened our sons with not making their next birthday if they didn’t settle down. Neither of us would do anything to hurt our sons, and they know that. But suddenly we both felt the humor in our empty threats. Their behavior seemed less extreme and we knew we’d be able to get through the next moment because we were laughing at the last moments.

2. Go ahead and cry your heart out.

Tears are cleansing. Allow your tears to wipe clean the heavy burdens you’ve carried. Accept that part of life as what it is and move past the stressor to a new step. Sometimes we forget the blessing of rain upon dry land. When the storms come, the land may be barren, but as sure as the raindrops fall, there’s life beneath the surface. [Read more…]
