Why a Job in Healthcare is so Fulfilling

June 28, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

Healthcare professions offer some of the most interesting and varied jobs around, where going to work each day means helping others to get well and live a better life. Take note of some of these important reasons why the healthcare industry is capable of providing a quality job for you.

Personal Patient Care Needs

There are a wide range of jobs that come under the banner of healthcare, and many of these jobs involve a large amount of personal patient care. It takes a very special person to be able to deal well with people on an individual basis, but for those who enjoy this kind of work, it is extremely rewarding. Unlike in many other jobs, there is also much more opportunity to connect with people.

A travelling nurse requires a whole range of skills in order to complete the job successfully, and these skills are often not ones that can be taught. Patience, kindness, and interest in others are just three essential qualities needed for this job. One of the main requirements for a travelling nurse is going to patients homes and care homes to visit and care for terminally ill and very old patients, and although this can be a tough job at times, it can also be extremely fulfilling to know that you are helping those in need.

Mentally Stimulating Job Functions

One of the key aspects of job satisfaction is how mentally stimulating a job can be. The healthcare industry is full of jobs that require above-average intelligence levels and a sharp mind to complete the requisite training provided for a healthcare administration degree. Bryant & Stratton healthcare programs, for example, can provide students with a in-depth knowledge of healthcare concepts plus the ability management of health services and facilities. Positions in this field also require knowledge of finance and law, disaster planning and management, and even information systems. Any job that requires all of these things is sure to challenge a bright mind and keep it engaged.

Varied Job Locations

If the thought of sitting in the same room day after day does not appeal to you then a job in healthcare such as a travelling nurse, massage therapist, or nutritionist can be an ideal opportunity to work in different locations. This not only breaks up the monotony of going to work every day, but allows you to experience new locations and visit different healthcare centers in your region.

A qualified massage therapist is able to work just about anywhere in the world, and this gives you the freedom to work and live how you wish. Job positions for massage therapists include working for sports teams, on cruise ships, at a spa centre, or as a home call therapist. This makes the job extremely exciting, and opens up a world of possibilities.

From traveling nurses to autism therapists and nutritionists, the healthcare industry has a wide range of fulfilling jobs available to suit all personality types. If job satisfaction is what you are looking for, what could be better than going to work every day to help others and improve their quality of life?

Surprise! Being Fit = More Opportunity; Here’s Why

hand giving money

A healthy body is the gateway to a sharp mind, and a sharp mind is the key factor to landing and excelling at the job of your dreams.

Now, going to the gym twice a week won’t immediately merit a raise at the office, but getting your health on track will improve your quality of life. People who lead happy lives are proven to succeed more in their professional endeavors. Here’s why.

How you carry yourself = how people view you

And I don’t just mean you’ll get more phone numbers at the bar on Friday night.

It’s a known fact that a rocking body will give you more luck with the opposite sex. But more importantly, it will make you think more highly of yourself. This is absolutely key in gaining the respect of others. Confident people are statistically more likely to request a raise at work, apply for advancement opportunities as they arise, or be offered promotions by their superiors.

But being confident means creating the version of yourself about whom you can feel confident.

How do you do that? [Read more…]

It’s Not Too Late: Change Your Inner Voice

July 7, 2011 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

Most of us would agree that the world is changing faster than it’s ever changed before.

We’re also affected by the personal transitions in our lives. The average person has six or seven careers. The divorce rate is high. Friendships change and people pass on. We all know about the aging process. At times we’re affected by many unforeseen forces that knock us for a loop. It takes us a while to recover. We have those moments when we feel overwhelmed.

When we catch our breath, we ask ourselves if we are living the life we really want. Very few of us can honestly say yes to that question. Yet we’re reluctant to make the changes we know we need to make. Most, if not all of us, settle for what we have. We make up a story with many variations that explains why our life is the way it is. You might recognize some of them. I am sure you have your own unique version.

If it were meant to happen, it would have by now.
I’m too old.
I’m too young.
I’m not good enough.
I don’t know the right people.”

These beliefs are the filters through which we see the world. If we want to see life differently we need to change the filter on our lens. All of these stories limit what we think is possible. Rather than making the changes we need to make we play it safe and stay in our comfort zones. For many that is the dead-end career or the toxic relationship. For some it might even be both. Until it becomes too painful to continue on this familiar path, we’re reluctant to change the story about our life.

That voice is pervasive. We hear it all the time. We can’t get away from it. It affects everything we do and how we think of ourselves. We are so hard on ourselves and would never talk to a friend the way that we talk to ourselves.

Years ago when I was still a trial lawyer I participated in a workshop with the Actors institute that reminded of this truth. There were 12 of us. Comedians, politicians, musicians and myself were asked near the end of the workshop to give a 10-minute presentation. We were asked to critique our own performance and that of the other participants. Our critique of our own performance was much harsher than the group’s critique of our performance.

A light bulb went on in my head when the instructor made a comment that I’ll never forget, ”If you had to hire yourself, you would never get a job.”

It’s not too late to change that voice.
