Talk Time for Healthy Relationships

I learned in therapy this simple technique to help keep your relationship strong.

Take 10-20 minutes every day for “Talk Time.”

During that period, ask each other these questions:

  • What did I do today that you liked?
  • What did I do today that you would prefer I do not do again?
  • Is there anything I can do tomorrow to help you out? (Then, make a commitment to get it done by a certain agreed-to date.)

Give each other a hug – and then go about your day.

Many people say 10-20 minutes is not enough. However, if they were to honestly look at their days, they’d realize that most people spend far less time than that with “quality time.” This will get you going. You can always add more.

And, if you think you’re too busy and 10-20 minutes is too much time, what are saying about what’s really important?

Forgetting life for work?

Not able to maintain a social life and work life balance? Well, the answer to these questions would be YES! No one intends to forget their personal life, but in today’s competitive world the nature of the work is so hard-hitting that you can never remain disconnected from it. You are expected to do more than you actually can in one day. The pressure of your work comes along with you when you reach home. This pressure creates stress which can be harmful for you and as well as your personal life.

Maintaining a balance between work and pleasure is necessary.

For a healthy life, your work and leisure activities should travel together. Sometimes work will take the front seat and sometimes leisure. Only work or only leisure will lead to an unhealthy lifestyle affecting your body, mind and your surroundings.
