Why a Job in Healthcare is so Fulfilling

June 28, 2013 by Featured Author Leave a Comment

Healthcare professions offer some of the most interesting and varied jobs around, where going to work each day means helping others to get well and live a better life. Take note of some of these important reasons why the healthcare industry is capable of providing a quality job for you.

Personal Patient Care Needs

There are a wide range of jobs that come under the banner of healthcare, and many of these jobs involve a large amount of personal patient care. It takes a very special person to be able to deal well with people on an individual basis, but for those who enjoy this kind of work, it is extremely rewarding. Unlike in many other jobs, there is also much more opportunity to connect with people.

A travelling nurse requires a whole range of skills in order to complete the job successfully, and these skills are often not ones that can be taught. Patience, kindness, and interest in others are just three essential qualities needed for this job. One of the main requirements for a travelling nurse is going to patients homes and care homes to visit and care for terminally ill and very old patients, and although this can be a tough job at times, it can also be extremely fulfilling to know that you are helping those in need.

Mentally Stimulating Job Functions

One of the key aspects of job satisfaction is how mentally stimulating a job can be. The healthcare industry is full of jobs that require above-average intelligence levels and a sharp mind to complete the requisite training provided for a healthcare administration degree. Bryant & Stratton healthcare programs, for example, can provide students with a in-depth knowledge of healthcare concepts plus the ability management of health services and facilities. Positions in this field also require knowledge of finance and law, disaster planning and management, and even information systems. Any job that requires all of these things is sure to challenge a bright mind and keep it engaged.

Varied Job Locations

If the thought of sitting in the same room day after day does not appeal to you then a job in healthcare such as a travelling nurse, massage therapist, or nutritionist can be an ideal opportunity to work in different locations. This not only breaks up the monotony of going to work every day, but allows you to experience new locations and visit different healthcare centers in your region.

A qualified massage therapist is able to work just about anywhere in the world, and this gives you the freedom to work and live how you wish. Job positions for massage therapists include working for sports teams, on cruise ships, at a spa centre, or as a home call therapist. This makes the job extremely exciting, and opens up a world of possibilities.

From traveling nurses to autism therapists and nutritionists, the healthcare industry has a wide range of fulfilling jobs available to suit all personality types. If job satisfaction is what you are looking for, what could be better than going to work every day to help others and improve their quality of life?

Life Lessons from the Ocean: The Power to Change

June 13, 2013 by Featured Author

wave-crashing-on-sand

The rugged Welsh coastline usually fills me with excitement, but today I’m subdued as I stare out at the tranquil sea willing her to rise to my command.  The water has been unusually flat for some time and I feel broken, yet the only waves to break are the ones lapping at my feet.  I stand with my itching toes in the water, my redundant board clutched against my side like a knife.  I feel a stabbing pain which reminds me that my soul waits for me on a crest of a wave.  My heart feels as empty as the surfer-less sea.

Looking for Inspiration? Check Out These 10 Uplifting Films

April 11, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Films hold a power over us—sad films make us cry, comedies make us laugh.

So, why not seek out films that inspire us to greater heights? This article looks at 10 uplifting films to select when looking for the best Blu ray movies to inspire you and your family.

“Bend It Like Beckham” (2002)

This soccer-themed comedy drama features Parminder Nagra and Kiera Knightly as two teenage would-be athletes. Nagra’s character, Jess, is forbidden from playing the sport by her conservative Sikh family, but she manages to attend matches and win accolades without their knowledge — for a time. The girls battle social pressure and the fallout from a love triangle to reach their dreams of playing soccer at university.

“The Shawshank Redemption” (1994)

A story of hope blossoming in unlikely places, “The Shawshank Redemption” follows convicted murderer and former banker Andy (played by Tim Robbins) through his double life sentences and longtime friendship with fellow convict Red (Morgan Freeman). Andy wins the trust of the warden, who wants him to help launder money. The friends hatch a plan to use the ill-gotten money for better purposes.

“Singing in the Rain” (1952)

Musical comedies can’t help but be inspirational, and “Singing in the Rain” is one of the best of its time. Part love story, part tale of personal ambition, this light-hearted look at the transition from silent film to “talkies” is a feel-good classic.

In order to reach her dream Dorothy has to go on a terrifying journey and kill a wicked witch. It all seems like too much for a little girl from Kansas, but with help from her friends she — and they — triumph. Watch this musical with tissues and the mantra, “there’s no place like home.”

“Schindler’s List” (1993)

The Spielberg tour-de-force film based on the book by Aussie novelist Thomas Keneally illustrates in black, white and a splash of red just how deeply one man can touch the lives of many others. Schindler, played by Liam Neeson, is a Nazi Party member who uses his factory to keep Jews away from concentration camps. Based on a true story, “Schindler’s List” is an affirmation of human decency worth watching time and again.

“August Rush” (2007)

August Rush, played by Freddie Highmore, is an orphan — or so he was told. But, born with the ability to hear music everywhere, August believes he will one day be reunited with his family. He never loses hope, even after falling in with a conniving racketeer played by Robin Williams. By the time August meets up with his mum and dad, viewers feel like they’ve had a family reunion of their own. [Read more…]
