In reality, habits do not just “happen.”
They are the end result of a chain consisting of thoughts which lead to feelings which lead to actions. If you wish to change the actions long-term, you must change your internal dialog first.
If you’re finding that you’re re-lapsing, it’s time to change what you say to yourself.
Watch out for the use of these especially dangerous phrases:
- I should
- I’m too lazy
- I cheated
- I was bad
- I was awful
- I’m stupid (a jerk, a moron)
- It’s too hard
- I’ll never be able to do it
