Positive Attitude is not Enough

November 4, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

A positive attitude only gets you so far.

climbing-mountain

If you’re not in shape for the climb, you’re still going to die half way up the mountain.

There’s nothing wrong with a positive attitude. It’s never harmful – and many times it’s essential.

However, unless you put it into action, it won’t do a thing. There is no substitute for hard work.

Think positive – and then positively act.

Lower Your Voice to Get What You Want

October 28, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Yelling can be as abusive as hitting.

We all get frustrated; that’s normal.

It’s how we handle it that matters.

As difficult as it might be to stay calm when things are going like you’d like to them to, remember, getting louder does not get the message across any better. Quite the contrary, it generates barriers.

Slow down. Take a deep breath. Go for a walk. Think of your intention.

Then, calmly, try again.

Are You Lazy, Bad, or Sloppy?

October 21, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

You’re not “bad,” or “lazy” because you don’t do what you’re supposed to do.

However, you might indeed be “sloppy.”

Let’s face it; we’re overly critical.

If – for example – we’re losing weight and we have a day of which we’re not proud, we say we were “bad,” or we “cheated,” or we beat ourselves up for being “lazy.”

We’re not lazy. We’re certainly not bad.

The reality is we’re busy, overloaded, and trying to do a whole lot.

Don’t label yourself for slip-ups. Rather, describe the error.

For example, wouldn’t it feel better, instead of saying, “I was bad today;” to say “I was ‘sloppy’ or ‘careless'”? One implies that you’re a person of lesser moral value. The other shows you’re human and you made a mistake.

You can correct a mistake a heck of a lot quicker than you can change your morals.

Success is not a Light Switch

October 14, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Success is not an “on” or “off” kind of thing.

man-fliping-light-switch

Dimmer SwitchIt ebbs and flows.

If one must use the light switch metaphor, it’s wiser to consider success to be a dimmer switch. Some days it’s at full brightness. Other times, it’s very dark.

But, it’s always on.

When you feel lost, look for ways to increase the brightness.

Pressing the Reset Button

October 7, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

You can press “Reset” whenever you want.

reset-button

Anytime it feels like things are not going the way you expected, you can press “reset.”

You don’t have to wait until the New Year, next month, Monday, “when the holidays are over,” or “when things settle down.” You don’t even have to wait until tomorrow.

You can do it right now.

And what’s really cool about the “reset button,” is you can push it over and over and over again.

It works every time.
