Spend an Entire Day in Gratitude

June 9, 2014 by Scott "Q" Marcus

Although this is very simple, it’s not as easy as it seems.

Go 24 hours without complaining about anything; not only to others, but to yourself.

Thank you so much.

Do not complain about politics, the weather, bad drivers, inconsiderate people, high prices, or traffic. Do not disparage customers, clerks, or those with opposing views. Do not think negative thoughts about co-workers, friends, or family.

Most importantly, do not berate yourself for where you are in life or where have you yet to go. Do not put yourself down for your mistakes, your accomplishment, or your appearance.

If you really want to “push” yourself, each time you feel the urge to be negative, find a way to be grateful instead.

Try it for one day.

What’s odd is how the rest of the world seems to change when you do.

Are you Grateful?

November 25, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

It’s not yours until you are thankful for it.

happy-thanksgiving

Whether it’s a gift from a friend, a relationship you treasure, or just your health, you cannot “own” something until you say “thank you” for it. Once you do, you are saying that you treasure it and will take care of it. Until that time, it can never be truly yours.

Give thanks for as much as you can (especially if it feels difficult to find something to be grateful for). Besides, it tells the universe you’re ready for more.

Make sure to share your gratitude.

(By the way, it’s impossible to feel sad and grateful at the same time.)

Are you Appreciative?

June 10, 2013 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Appreciation runs in two directions.

proudmanIt almost goes without saying that we all love to be appreciated.

What would the remainder of your day be like if:

  • You did a “little something” around the house and your spouse said how much he appreciated it?
  • One of your children called just to say he loves you and he’s glad you’re his mom?
  • You were weeding your yard and noticed some weeds growing in your neighbor’s yard so you decided to pull a few of them. A  short while later, there’s a knock on your door. It’s your neighbor, just saying “thank you”?
  • You notice the person behind you in the grocery store line has only a couple things. You let him go before you. He sincerely wishes you a wonderful day?

Obviously, you’d feel great. It’s because you were appreciated.

We cannot make anyone else appreciate us. Yet, we sure can take the time to appreciate someone else.

Take a moment each day to appreciate a simple act.

You’ll appreciate how great it makes YOU feel.

Give Thanks for Your Past

November 19, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus Leave a Comment

Learn about your past before it’s too late.

It is a part of you and therefore will help shape your future.

As you gather with family and friends, remember this is a time to give thanks for what you have – including your history.

None of us would exist without so many before us. Find out who they are. Learn what they did.

Realize you are the culmination of all their hopes and dreams.

Then, give thanks yet again.

Ways to Give Thanks to be Happier

November 12, 2012 by Scott "Q" Marcus

The more grateful we are, the happier we are.

In a crazy, busy, over-overwhelming world, it’s hard to remember to be grateful. But it definitely helps.

Here are some options of what you can do to share the gratitude:

  • Thank a co-worker for what he or she did for you
  • Thank a clerk for his or her help
  • Leave a note for your letter carrier thanking him for his hard work
  • Put a dollar in jar for charity
  • Tell a family member how happy you are to have her in your life
  • Pray, meditate, breathe deeply
  • Send a card
  • Smile when you can – and catch yourself doing so
  • Leave a post below

With Thanksgiving approaching, it seems like a good time to get “in practice.” Please share what you did.
