Although this is very simple, it’s not as easy as it seems.
Go 24 hours without complaining about anything; not only to others, but to yourself.
Do not complain about politics, the weather, bad drivers, inconsiderate people, high prices, or traffic. Do not disparage customers, clerks, or those with opposing views. Do not think negative thoughts about co-workers, friends, or family.
Most importantly, do not berate yourself for where you are in life or where have you yet to go. Do not put yourself down for your mistakes, your accomplishment, or your appearance.
If you really want to “push” yourself, each time you feel the urge to be negative, find a way to be grateful instead.
Try it for one day.

Dear Scott:
I need to reply to this message. I see your messages, and want you to know that everything is ok. It is more than ok. After reading this message, since I do not check messages every day, I went back to see if the Monday message was indeed here. It is, and the message of “One day of Gratitude” is most appropriate for me. You see, three weeks ago on my return trip working, I had a pretty serious accident, totaled my car, and sustained a few fairly serious injuries (mostly from my seat belt) in the process. I was three days in the hospital, and left looking pretty much like a cross between a badly bruised Smurf and a raccoon, but very grateful to be alive. I have nearly always been grateful for the circumstances I have been in, but this instance has increased my appreciation for this beautiful world, the love of friends, and the protection of a loving Heavenly Father, who has granted me more time in his beautiful world. I am grateful for the gift of healing, and though it will be a few more weeks before returning to work, that little by little I am growing stronger. Grateful? Yes! I am grateful each moment, and for each moment that I may be able to gain strength to help others, and perhaps spread that gratitude so they may also be grateful for their circumstances, what ever they may be.
Gratefully,
Marye Kendall
