There are almost eight billion humans sharing this small blue, water covered rock as it traverses its solar orbit at 67,000 miles per hour.
I know that these individuals are of all ages, unlimited principles, and an unfathomable range of colors, shapes, and sizes. I know that there are countless other life forms to whom Earth is also home.
I know that we all arrived from the same source and that we’re all going to end up in the same place; it is only the paths we take which differ.
I believe that each and every life is connected to each other via a greater, unseen — yet still very existent — domain of energy in which we are all interlocked and inseparable.
Some might call It “God” or “Universe,” or “Spirit;” it matters not It’s name; too often we fight over what to call It while missing It’s concepts. I furthermore believe that science and spiritually are not mutually exclusive; rather they complement each other.
I believe that Mother Earth — “Gaia” — herself is also a sentient entity, interwoven with and through all life, and together we and she influence each other. We are yet too underdeveloped to understand completely that relationship, and cannot do so any more than a bacterium living in my gut can have a concept that its survival depends on another living being of which it is oblivious.
I know that when one pitches a rock into the ocean, sea level must indeed rise to accommodate the increase in volume; yet I concede that it is such an insignificant amount compared to the ocean’s vast volume that it’s beneath our ability to gauge. In that same manner, I trust that since we are integrated with Gaia and each other, that any actions in which we engage not only affect us, but also every other being — as well as this planet — even if we don’t perceive that impact.
I am convinced that every being aspires to a fulfilling, satisfying, healthy, prosperous life, in whatever definitions those are for that individual.
I believe that when left to our natural tendencies, humans are beings of boundless love and talent who seek out methods to support, rather than harm, each other. I know and believe that we all love deeply and care about our families, friends, and others; and we’re all doing as well as we can with what we have, muddling through Life one step at time, attempting to navigate the best way forward.
Because I know these facts and have these values, I see a future where we live in harmony with our inner desires, our neighbors of all species on this planet, and even that Life Source from Mother Earth and beyond. I picture a time when the norm is compassion and kindness, and the concept of “might makes right” is equated with outdated notions akin to stoning witches and sacrificing virgins.
I believe that this will someday happen, yet concede that the time frame will be longer than I wish for while hoping it will be shorter than I expect it to be.
I believe that each deed, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, is therefore affecting that outcome even as I write this. I believe thoughts lead to actions and every action makes a difference.
Understanding all this, I know that this better world surrounds us right now if we seek it out and share it.
I wish it for you in 2018 and beyond and I know it is already in progress.
