While it’s always important to keep on learning throughout life, there is no reason to turn learning into a code word for drudgery. In fact, learning new things is the perfect way to incorporate a little fun into your day. Taking classes just for fun is an opportunity to, not only learn a new skill, but to actually learn how to let go have fun again! If you’re stuck for ideas on new things to do, try out some of these accessible and fun courses. You can find most of them through community programs or available at local colleges and universities:
1. Acting
While you may want to make sure you enroll in a class that is not meant for professional actors, there are plenty of different reasons why an acting class can be a blast. If you’ve ever wanted to be on stage, this is the perfect time to just let loose and go for it. You never know, a role could even be waiting if you discover a hidden passion.
2. Ballroom Dancing
Ballroom dancing is something that can be accommodated to any level of experience and physical fitness. You don’t need to know anything about the Waltz to learn it for the first time, and it’s also a great way to meet new people, as you’ll be partnered up with other classmates.
3. Cooking
A cooking class is something that everyone should do at least once in their lives. It’s an easy way to learn something new, you get to try some delicious recipes, and you can even come away with a skill that can be used over and over. The best part of a cooking class is getting to try everyone else’s concoctions.
4. Yoga
Many people make the mistake of assuming that you need to be extra limber or in excellent physical shape in order to do yoga. This is simply not the case. Yoga can be done at any level, and there are many classes dedicated to simple stretching.
5. Zumba
Zumba is definitely high energy, so make sure that you’re prepared for a good workout. But, the great thing about it is that it’s designed for all age and skill levels and it’s so fast-paced that the outcome can be hilarious. Go with a few friends who are new to this fitness program and have a laugh trying to learn.
6. Film Theory
Film theory does not have to be as serious as it sounds. If you take the class just for fun, then you get the opportunity to relax and watch tons of different films. Then, you discuss them as a class and do some writing on your own about what you think.
7. Painting
You can find a great painting class anywhere, whether at a local studio or a public university. Take pleasure in learning how to work with oils, hold a brush, and create things that you never thought possible. Taking the class just for fun is a great way to release stress and let go of your finished product.
8. Pottery
If you love working with your hands, pottery is another great way to relax and focus. Learning how to work with a pottery wheel and mold things out of clay is definitely a must-do. Try heading to a class that offers wine throughout and have a blast trying to make a bowl or vase without it doubling over.
9. Poker
Now, if any of those artsy classes just aren’t your speed, don’t worry. Poker could very well be the class for you. Learn how to bluff with the best of them, and make sure to enter a class that doesn’t gamble with real money.
10. Gardening
Gardening is the perfect way to spend some time outside when the weather is nice. If you have absolutely no green thumb, though, a few helpful gardening tips will never hurt. Look for a class located in the outdoors, with a real garden.
